It might be about injuries, damages or aftershocks to the earthquake. It is reported that there was another quake about a half hour later with 5.3 magnitude and that the original one was about 60 miles off the shore of Japan and about 25 miles deep in the ocean. So far there have been no reports of severe injuries although 2100 people are reported to be without power.
This is not the first time Japan has been hit by a major earthquake. Specifically Tokyo was hit in 1923 and 140,000 people were killed in the Great Kanto Earthquake and a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Japan in July 2007, shutting down a major nuclear power plant and leaving 11 people dead.
If anyone has video that is in the area I would appreciate it if you would forward that video to this email address: japanquake2008 [at] gmail.com
If you have seen anything interesting or you have video you can pass on about the earthquake in Japan on Thursday morning measuring 6.8 in magnitude or about the second shock that was 5.3 magnitude that came a half hour later we would like to see it. Please put in the title this phrase: “magnitude 6.8 earthquake hits Japan”
I was stationed in Japan for a little over 3 years. Misawa Air Base - even though I was in the Army. Any time CA had an earthquake we felt it a few days later, like a ripple effect across the ocean bottom.
My next duty station was in Hawaii so I was “Island crazy” when I finally made it back to PA. I could finally drive for over an hour without hitting water. LOL
